Relays are a great way to step up to racing by being part of a team. The Woodend Relays is the first real off-road relay of the Athletics Canterbury winter season. We extend a warm welcome to this opportunity to try cross country running as a team.
We attribute this event to a very famous local Canterbury Christchurch runner - Lionel Fox. Lionel Ernest Fox (29 September 1912 – 1 April 1978) was a New Zealand long-distance athlete who represented NZ at the 1950 British Empire Games.
"This challenging event is hugely rewarding and it's always fun running these relays. The variety in this course is fantastic: sandy trails, forest, and sometimes beach views...diversity all the way! Love running it every year"
"I like the novelty of a team relay event and I enjoy running in the forest. It is lovely running underfoot in all weather"
