2021 Course map
WOODEND BEACH DOMAIN
Only 21 min (10.7 km) from Christchurch CBD, this run offers the opportunity to run in coastal dunes and on forest trails. The various dips and hollows near the coast provide variety on the trails and the canopy of pine trees gives protection from strong offshore breezes. While the tracks are very runnable, care will be needed due to the coastal terrain. The track narrows and winds around and has tree roots and other natural features. We consider this makes the event a true cross country trail run.
ROUTE & ELEVATION
The course has undulations of up to 10m high over sand dunes as well as woodland tracks and flat areas. It is generally a fast course with one obstacle that you can run around or hurdle. Each lap is approx. 2km so adults run two laps and U18 one lap per person.
This course covers a wide variety of terrain in a short circuit course. It has undulating sandy dunes, winding woodland paths, and a flat grass finish. You will have a fast open area to end each lap and lots of running on curvy sections of trail in the woodland area. This whole area is sheltered from strong winds and is a good winter running spot for many locals
