Governors Bay to Lyttelton Road Race 2024
Incorporating the Canterbury 10k Road Championships
Race History
The Governors Bay to Lyttelton Road Race was first a "go-as-you-please" handicap race from Lyttelton to Governors Bay and back, about 13 miles (20.9 KM). Originally, participants would run over the Bridle Path to the Opawa Methodist Church and back.

The race as it is now was first run on 11 August 1962. The course was changed due to "differing opinions expressed on the nature of the course" - in other words, too much terrain!

In 2020, the had two starters from the original 1962 event competing. Well done to Peter Coughlan (then Technical; now New Brighton Olympic) & John Gordon (then Marist; now Port Hills).
