Welcome
to Cross Country 2025

For the 2025 season we have split the information on the programme into Cross-Country and Road sections. Both sections will operate the Running Passport for our younger runners and, for the Cross-Country section, a Championship Challenge for those in the Under 18 grade and above.

This website covers the Cross-Country Challenge five events. The Road website (available in May) will cover those events held later in the season.

Here are also the links to the Daniel Reese Relay, the Lakeside Trail Relay and the Port Hills U18 races, all of which are run by clubs and so form part of our winter progamme. Specific Passport stamps are on offer for all of these.

Run in our Road events, the excellent club races, and the Cross-Country Challenge events to have a full year of racing. Your registration covers the whole winter programme.

A new running challenge exclusively for registered runners in the U18+grades- i.e. 16 years and over at the end of 2025.

Join our community of runners and earn points towards becoming the:

  • Overall Champion in your age grade

  • A Hill Champion

  • A Sprint Champion

Full details of how it all works are available here.

The CC Challenge Events

Run in all five events to achieve your Cross-Country Challenge Goal or your passport stamps.

  • The Bottle Lake Assault - Two* 2km loops in the straight race up and over the Bottle Lake Hills as well as a multi-member relay.

  • Friday Night Lights - Loops in the University Ilam Fields. Includes the infamous "Eliminator" for our fastest.

  • The Kennett Cup Cross Country Races incorporating the Cross-Country Short Course Championships at Rawhiti Domain

  • The Cross-Country Long Course Championships at Ascot Park

  • The Mid-Winter Time Trial - an "individual race" at Hagley Park run in conjunction with our orienteering friends. Live results on show as runners complete their courses - will the early runners retain their leads or slip down the leaderboards?

The Passport

For 2025 we have developed a Runners passport for our Under 16 runners so they can have a physical record of their achievements over the season.

The next stamp available is for the Bottle Lake Challenge and this stamp can be collected, after you have run in this event. Remember even if you are not in a relay team you can run lap one and earn your stamp. Check out this page to see the upcoming stamp on offer.

Athletes should simply go to the information desk with their passport, and we will give them the right stamp for that event. Initial passports are free of charge; replacement passports will cost $5.

Collect all 10 to have a full record of the 2025 season. Collect at least 8 and get to join in the VIP end of season event.
