Formally held at (the no longer available) Halswell Quarry and featuring the Jane Paterson Cup, this event has the added challenge of hurdles to either jump over or run around.
Course Details
Location: Ascot Park, Parklands

This event is part of the Cross-Country Challenge for registered runners in the Under 18 grades and above.
​
The first lap has one hurdle and subsequent laps two hurdles. Runners can go over or take a long cut around the far end of each hurdle.

Community runners - $20 for adults/$10 for Under 16 (enter on the day). Note community runners are not eligible for medals.

Canterbury Cross Country Championship medals will be presented after each event to the first three in each male and female grade: U10, U12, U/14, U/16, U/18, U/20, Open, Senior, M35-49, M50-64, MM65-79, MW65+ and MM80+

Lorna Overend from the Ladies Pioneer Harrier club played a significant role in promoting running among young women. In her memory $100 is awarded annually to the winners of the Canterbury Cross Country Championships grades for the Senior, U20 and U18 women.
